Gideon Boako demands probe into killing of health worker, shooting at Yamfo

-

Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako, has urged security agencies to immediately investigate the fatal shooting of a young health worker and the subsequent unrest in Yamfo, a community in his constituency.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, involved a violent clash between some local youth and police personnel, leading to the death of Richard Agyei Antwi, a health worker.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 8 April, Dr Boako described the event as a “tragic incident” that has disrupted the peace in the otherwise calm Yamfo community.

He revealed that tensions escalated after the incident, resulting in the vandalism of the Yamfo Police Station and prompting a military deployment from Sunyani to restore order.

“The situation has caused not only the loss of life and property but threatens the harmony the Yamfo community has enjoyed for years,” he said.

The MP also disclosed that another resident sustained life-threatening injuries after allegedly being shot by a military officer. The injured individual is currently receiving treatment at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.

Dr Boako appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from any acts of retaliation.

“I urge everyone in these distressing times to remain calm and refrain from actions that may further escalate tensions,” he said.

He called on the Municipal Security Council and relevant authorities to conduct a full and impartial investigation into the incident.

“I call upon the security agencies to ensure that justice is duly served,” Dr Boako emphasized.

He extended his condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
