Drobo Traditional Council sets GHs6k, six sheep as fine for sharing viral nude videos

The Drobo Traditional Council in the Bono Region has imposed a fine of GHC6,000 and six sheep on any social media user found resharing or circulating explicit videos and photos of young women from the area.

This follows the recent appearance of explicit content involving young women from Drobo, which has gone viral on social media.

Presiding over the matter, Okokyeredom Sakyi Ako II, the Paramount Chief of the Drobo Traditional Area in the Jaman South Municipality, emphasized that resharing or circulating such content is an offense.

At a news conference in Drobo, Nana Ama Foriwaa II, the Krontihemaa (sub-queen) of the Traditional Council, strongly condemned the “illicit resharing and circulation” of the videos and photos. She called the situation “unfortunate and unacceptable,” noting that it has brought shame to the victims, their families, the community, and the Traditional Council.

Nana Abena Tamea, the Gyaasehemaa (sub-queen), also condemned the act, labeling it as a taboo in the area. She warned the youth to be cautious about what they share or circulate on social media to avoid facing serious consequences.

Background:

The incident was triggered by the leak of an intimate video involving two prominent individuals from Drobo.

The video, which shows a private encounter between a young man and a woman, was reportedly recorded by the woman on her mobile phone. It was later leaked onto the internet, sparking a stir within the community.

The identities of the individuals involved have been withheld, but they are well-known figures in Drobo. Since the video’s release, their presence in the town has been minimal, and their whereabouts are currently unknown.

In response, the Drobo Traditional Council has issued a strict ban on the video’s circulation and warned that anyone found distributing it will face severe consequences as outlined by traditional law.

This incident has ignited discussions about privacy, digital ethics, and the consequences of leaked content on both individuals and communities. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with concerns over cyber violations growing.
