On Friday, 4th April 2025, the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) presented its memorandum containing proposals for constitutional amendments and institutional reforms to the Constitution Review Committee (CRC) during its sitting in Accra.
IDEG’s memorandum focuses on reforms in the areas of Local Governance, Political Parties, Public Service, and Public Enterprise.
The memorandum was received by Prof. Kwesi Prempeh, Chairman of the CRC.
The CRC is currently engaging with citizens, institutions, and organizations to gather views and recommendations for amendments to Ghana’s 1992 constitution.
Upon receiving the proposals, Prof. Kwesi Prempeh acknowledged IDEG’s tireless work in research, advocacy, policy development, good governance, and promoting healthy democratic practices over the years.
He expressed gratitude to IDEG for its participation and contributions to the work of the CRC and the constitutional review process.
In fulfillment of his campaign promise to implement the constitutional review process, President John Dramani Mahama established a Constitution Review Committee in January. The committee has a six-month timeline to submit recommendations to the government.
The committee’s mandate includes identifying and addressing gaps and challenges in the implementation of previous constitutional reviews conducted by the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.
