Asante Kotoko head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has admitted that his team’s narrow 1-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea was a tough encounter.
The Porcupine Warriors secured all three points in their outstanding league fixture on Wednesday at the Baba Yara Stadium, thanks to a decisive 79th-minute goal from Daniel Adrian Adjetey.
Speaking after the game, Dr. Ogum praised Chelsea’s tactical discipline and acknowledged that his side had to work hard to break them down.
“They [Berekum Chelsea] are very good aerially. When the ball goes up—first balls, second balls, whether behind our defence or in front of our defence—they are always there, very aggressive in winning the ball. So it made the game a little bit challenging in the middle of the park,” he noted.
Reflecting on his side’s missed opportunities, he added: “On a few occasions, we were able to split their defence, but we were in a rush to score. I remember [the missed chances of] Peter [Amidu] and Kwame Opoku. It was a balanced game, a very challenging game, but at the end of the day, the important thing is that we won.”
The victory propels Asante Kotoko to the top of the league table with 45 points. Up next, they will aim to maintain their strong form when they visit Heart of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium this weekend.
