The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has launched an investigation into an alleged assault involving seven of its personnel in Kumasi on Friday, March 28, 2025.
The joint probe, led by the Military Police and the Ashanti Regional Police CID, aims to establish the facts of the case.
The personnel, identified as three officers and four soldiers, reportedly arrested and assaulted three civilians accused of stealing a mobile phone. The civilians sustained varying degrees of injuries during the altercation.
A statement signed by the Director of Public Relations, Brigadier General Eric Aggrey Quashie, confirmed that the personnel involved have been placed under closed arrest pending the outcome of the inquiry.
“The Military High Command wishes to assure all that anyone found culpable would be dealt with according to the law,” the statement emphasized, reaffirming the military’s commitment to discipline and accountability.
Meanwhile, the Military High Command has urged calm, advising the public to allow due process to take its course.
“We also urge the families and friends of the victims to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigations,” the statement added.
