The fierce race to be La Liga champions will be joined in the spotlight by the Seville derby on Matchday 29, as Real Betis and Sevilla renew their rivalry with a clash at the Benito Villamarin Stadium.

Real Betis will host Sevilla on Sunday night, as the two teams chase very different season ambitions. The hosts are striving to finish in the top six and secure qualification for a UEFA club competition next term, while the visitors merely want to end in the top half of the table and put to bed a forgettable campaign.
Yet for Sevilla there is a chance of a league ‘double’ over Betis, having beaten their arch rivals 1-0 at home when the teams last met in October of 2024. The goal scorer in that game was Dodi Lukebakio, a Belgian winger of Congolese descent who can become one of the best players in La Liga, according to Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta.
“Lukebakio is a top-level player. I have been talking to him for some time and I tell him that he has to be one of the best in the league in his position,” said Pimienta. “He has the potential and we must demand the maximum from him. His performance has been very high.”
Aside from ‘El Gran Derbi’, the focus will fall on the heavyweight trio in the title race. Atletico Madrid are first up, facing Espanyol away from home on Saturday afternoon, while reigning champions Real Madrid are in action later the same evening when they welcome Leganes to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Real manager Carlo Ancelotti has explained that at this stage of the season, he is focused more on points than performances: “I understand that people didn’t like it, but we have to take into account the busy schedule we are facing,” the Italian explained. “It’s very difficult to prepare for all those games and maintain the same intensity for 90 minutes.”
Barcelona will have until Sunday afternoon to respond to their two rivals’ results, as they tackle Girona at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium for a Catalan derby. Barca claimed an emphatic 4-1 away win when the teams met earlier this season, but manager Hansi Flick is taking nothing for granted.
“I’ve watched Girona’s games and I see that they play at a high level. But we are in a good position and I hope we can continue like this,” said the German tactician.
