Artistes shouldn’t be ignorant of TGMA submissions – George Quaye

George Quaye, a former head of communications for Charterhouse, organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), has urged artistes to take an active interest in the awards scheme.

Addressing concerns raised by some artistes over the submission and nomination process, Quaye stated on Daybreak Hitz that musicians should take responsibility for understanding the procedure rather than claiming ignorance.

“If you want to submit your works for the Grammys, do you go to anybody to teach you what to do? You have to show interest, right? If I were a musician, I’d feel very ashamed to sit on the radio and say I don’t know how to submit forms for TGMAs,” he told Andy Dosty.

He emphasised that all necessary information is readily available on the TGMA website, and musicians should make the effort to learn and complete their submissions correctly.

“Robert should come to your house to show you how to do it? The scheme has been here for 25 solid years. If you cannot do it yourself, get somebody to do it for you. But to sit on the radio or social media and say, ‘I don’t know,’ you should be ashamed of yourself,” he asserted.

Quaye further stressed that with the availability of modern technology, there is no excuse for not accessing the required information.

“In 2025, with so much technology around, I’m sure if I Google ‘how to submit my forms to Charterhouse,’ I’ll find the answer. There are many people who can help you,” he added.

His comments serve as a wake-up call for musicians to be proactive in seeking information and taking responsibility for their careers, rather than relying on others or making excuses.
