Ghanaian musician Mahnny has expressed concern over the growing issue of drug use among the youth in Ghana.
In a recent interview on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, he discussed the alarming trend, particularly highlighting the prevalence of drugs in places like Atlanta.
“I am starting to see some demonstration about drug use and stuff and I feel it is messing up the youth. Because when you get to Atlanta, the downtown there you’d know that there is drugs in this country. It’s very crazy, like nice guys, nice girls, everybody is on drugs, and I think it is not a good thing,” Mahnny said.
The artiste believes there is someone orchestrating the influx of drugs into the country, targeting young people. “Maybe there’s somebody somewhere bringing all these goods down for people to sell them to our youth, and it’s spoiling them,” he explained.
Mahnny also spoke about the evolution of drugs, specifically ecstasy, noting how it has changed in appearance over time.
“It used to be white, then it came blue, and now it’s red. It’s the same as ecstasy. They try to find people who will take it, and if people are interested, they bring it more into the country,” he shared.
The musician recounted personal encounters with drug peddlers at popular locations like Labadi Beach, emphasizing the need for vigilance in public spaces.
“These things happen in nightclubs and open places we go, even at Labadi Beach. Some people may approach you and say, ‘Yo, I have this, I have GH gold,'” Mahnny revealed.
He stressed the importance of awareness and action to curb drug use, especially at public spots like beaches. “It is not good for you to approach people coming from abroad to have fun, and it feels like our beaches are selling drugs, which is not good,” he concluded.
Mahnny’s concerns call for greater awareness and action to address the growing drug issue among the youth in Ghana.
