Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is focused on restoring confidence in his squad as they gear up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
Ghana, four-time African champions, will face Chad on Friday, March 21, at the Accra Sports Stadium before taking on Madagascar three days later in Morocco. These will be their first competitive matches of the year after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Black Stars endured a tough run in 2024, managing just two wins from 10 games. However, Addo sees the upcoming fixtures as a chance to shift momentum and bring about a positive change.
“For me, it’s not about qualifiers, World Cup, or AFCON qualifiers. Each and every game is important. Surely, I think it’s difficult sometimes to compare circumstances, especially if you have friendly matches or matches where you have a lot of injuries,” Addo told TV3.
“I know the statistics count, but for me, it doesn’t count too much. Each and every game is important. We always try to do our best. I’m looking forward to this match.”
The 49-year-old coach is eager for his team to rediscover their winning mentality.
“I’m really, really looking forward to this match to also bring back a little bit of positivity and confidence to the players. I hope Chad is coming in at the right time and prepares the boys.”
Ghana currently sits joint top of their World Cup qualifying group with nine points, level with Comoros, as they push for a spot in the 2026 tournament.
