Foreign Affairs Minister plans passport centers in all 16 regions

-

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced plans to establish passport application centers in all 16 regions of Ghana.

This initiative aims to ease pressure on the existing facility in Accra, which has been overwhelmed by high demand and long processing times.

Ablakwa made the announcement while addressing Parliament on Thursday, March 12, emphasizing that decentralizing passport services will improve accessibility for Ghanaians nationwide, reducing the need to travel to Accra.

“our goal is to make passport acquisition more convenient for all citizens by regionalizing application centers,” he stated.

He added that ongoing reforms—including 24-hour operations, reduced processing times, and courier services for passport delivery—will enhance efficiency once the regional offices are operational.

Currently, the Accra passport application center handles a high volume of applications, leading to delays and congestion.
