Introduce fair taxes that won’t burden Ghanaians – Janet Nabla to government

The Chairperson of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Asana Nabla, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to introduce fair taxes that will not overburden the average Ghanaian.

Speaking ahead of the 2025 Budget presentation in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, she acknowledged that while Ghanaians generally dislike paying taxes, they expect basic amenities such as good roads and schools in return.

“It’s true that Ghanaians don’t want to pay taxes, but they also need basic amenities. Introduce taxes that won’t burden the average Ghanaian. The NDC was voted into power partly because of its stance on tax exemptions, but any new taxes introduced must be carefully considered,” she said.

She also cautioned that excessive taxation often impacts consumers the most, as many producers in Ghana shift the burden onto them by increasing prices.

“The consumer is the hardest hit when it comes to taxes, so the government must focus on that. Many producers make profits from taxes yet increase prices for consumers. The real problem in Ghana is not political—it’s about policies that work for the people,” she added.

Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson is set to present the 2025 Budget and Policy Statement on March 11.
