The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has called for renewed efforts to achieve gender equality, acknowledging progress while stressing that significant challenges remain.

In a statement marking International Women’s Day, she applauded the dedication, resilience, and professionalism of all female staff of the Commission.

“Your commitment and hard work played a key role in ensuring the peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral outcomes our nation witnessed on December 7, 2024,” she noted.

Madam Mensa commended Ghana’s advancements in promoting gender equality and paid tribute to the women who have paved the way for future generations. However, she pointed out that various obstacles continue to hinder the full participation of women and girls in society.

Citing this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Accelerating Action: A Call for Gender Equality,” she urged stakeholders to intensify efforts in creating a society where women and girls have equal opportunities and representation.

“It is time to take bold steps and work together to build a more just and inclusive society for all,” she emphasized.

She also encouraged young women and girls to remain steadfast and confident, noting that their strength and perseverance serve as an inspiration to many.

Additionally, she honored the contributions of women who have played a vital role in the Commission’s success over the past three decades, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to advancing gender equality.

“To all the remarkable women who have shaped the Electoral Commission of Ghana over the years, we celebrate you today and remain committed to championing gender equality together,” she concluded.

“Congratulations to all the women who have made a difference in the Electoral Commission of Ghana over the last three decades. We honor you today and look forward to continuing the fight for gender equality together,” she added.
