Agalga, Ntim Fordjour lead Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee

-

James Agalga and John Ntim Fordjour have been appointed as Chairman and Ranking Member, respectively, of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior.

Their leadership places them at the helm of parliamentary oversight on national security, defence policy, border control, immigration, prisons, fire service, and narcotics regulation.

They are expected to ensure thorough scrutiny of government policies and actions in these critical sectors.

James Agalga, a legal practitioner and fourth-term MP for Builsa North, previously served as Deputy Minister for the Interior. His extensive experience in security policy and governance positions him well to lead discussions on law enforcement reforms, border security, and counterterrorism efforts.

As Chairman, he is expected to drive policies that enhance national safety and stability.

John Ntim Fordjour, a fourth-term MP for Assin South and former Deputy Minister for Education, takes on the role of Ranking Member.

A mineral engineer with expertise in security sector governance, he will lead the minority side in scrutinizing defence and interior-related policies, ensuring accountability and alignment with democratic principles.

Supporting them are Peter Toobu, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police and second-term MP for Wa West, serving as Vice Chairman, and Kofi Amankwaah-Manu, former Deputy Minister for Defence and second-term MP for Atwima Kwanwoma, serving as Deputy Ranking Member.

The Defence and Interior Committee is expected to adopt a proactive approach in addressing security concerns and policy gaps. Under their leadership, the committee aims to foster bipartisan collaboration to strengthen national security and internal stability.
