It’s a bit early for anyone to pass judgment on Mahama – Oppong Nkrumah

Former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has called on Ghanaians to remain patient with President John Mahama’s economic management, stating that it is too early to pass judgment on the administration.

Speaking on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3, the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP argued that Mahama’s approach is not significantly different from past presidents.

“Every government sets targets within the first 100 to 120 days, and he is committed to his list,” he noted.

Citing past administrations, he recalled that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) reduced taxes and implemented policies that earned public approval, particularly from Abossey Okai traders. However, he stressed that a government’s true test comes when economic challenges arise.

“The NPP, for instance, reduced taxes and did several things that earned the praise of many Ghanaians. Likewise, they [the NDC] have started with certain initiatives, but how they respond when the headwinds come will determine everything,” he said.

Oppong Nkrumah also acknowledged concerns over the discontinuation of high-profile cases and the appointment of individuals linked to those cases into key positions.

“It would have been best for them to make their case in court and be cleared if they were truly not guilty—nobody would have had problems with that.

“People are criticising, but I think it is still early days yet, so let’s watch for a while,” he added.
