Stephen Yankyera Amoh, a technical member of the team that accompanied the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, to Parliament, has assured lawmakers that all procurement processes for the construction of the new Bank of Ghana headquarters were duly approved.
During a Parliamentary session where Dr. Asiama responded to questions about the project, Mr. Amoh explained that the Bank of Ghana followed the necessary procurement procedures, including obtaining approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).
“Mr. Speaker, procurement approvals were sought for all the processes. One was the PPA approval to use the restricted tendering for the selected contractors who were perceived to be suited to build such an edifice,” he stated.
This assurance was made to address concerns over the transparency of the procurement process, particularly in light of the scrutiny the project has faced regarding its cost and necessity.
Mr. Amoh emphasized that the selection of contractors followed due process to ensure the project met required standards.
Despite ongoing debates over the financial implications of the Bank of Ghana’s new headquarters, his remarks reaffirmed that all necessary procurement regulations were adhered to before construction began.
