The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, held a meeting with Bridge Power Co. Ltd. on Tuesday, March 4, after the company decided to halt operations due to the non-payment of $47 million in supply arrears owed by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for seven months.
This shutdown has led to the loss of 200MW of power, significantly impacting an already fragile national power supply system.
In the meeting, Minister Jinapor reassured Bridge Power of the government’s commitment to addressing the financial challenges facing the energy sector.
To ensure prompt payments, the Minister directed that Bridge Power be moved to Tier 1 status for power producers, which would prioritize the payment of arrears.
The move is expected to mitigate the disruption in power supply and strengthen the financial standing of the company.
