The Chairman of the Interim Hajj Board, Collins Dauda, has stated that Ghana offers the most affordable Hajj pilgrimage fare in Sub-Saharan Africa, with Muslim pilgrims paying less than $5,000 for the journey to Mecca.
speaking to the press after touring the proposed Hajj Village near Kotoka International Airport, Mr. Dauda confirmed that while the government remains committed to ensuring a smooth pilgrimage experience, there are no plans to reduce the current fare.
he emphasized that the fare of GHC62,000 (approximately $4,130) is the lowest compared to neighboring countries.
“the fare we have announced is the cheapest in the region,” he noted.
“for instance, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and Senegal all charge over $5,000, while Ghana’s remains at $4,130.”
although there are no immediate plans to lower the fare, Mr. Dauda indicated that future adjustments would depend on prevailing economic conditions.
the proposed Hajj Village, once completed, is expected to function as a dedicated terminal for Ghanaian pilgrims traveling to Mecca.
