Hearts of Oak weighing alternative venues after Legon stadium rejection

-

Hearts of Oak are considering three alternative venues for their home matches after the University of Ghana Sports Stadium was deemed unfit by the Club Licensing Manager.

Initially, the Phobians had designated the Legon Stadium as their temporary home ground following the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium.

However, ahead of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, the Club Licensing Manager ruled against its use for top-flight games.

In an interview with Sporty FM, Hearts of Oak’s Communications Director, Kwame Opare Addo, confirmed that the club is now evaluating alternative locations.

“We are considering Sogakope, Kpando, and Tema stadiums as potential venues,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Club Licensing Committee has also ruled out Berekum Chelsea’s Golden City Park, Basake Holy Stars’ AAK Ampanian Stadium in Nzema, and Young Apostles’ Wenchi Sports Stadium due to safety and infrastructure concerns.

This decision aligns with the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols, which were introduced after the tragic stabbing of Asante Kotoko supporter Nana Pooley in Nsoatre earlier this month.

Despite these challenges, Matchday 20 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League will proceed as scheduled this weekend at approved venues.
