An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced an unemployed man to two years in prison for stealing quantities of electrical cables at La in Accra.
Ebenezer Tetteh was found guilty of stealing cables, whose value and owner were not known to the court.
Tetteh pleaded guilty with explanation but was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Mrs. Sedinam Awo Kwadam. According to the court, his explanation confirmed his guilt.
The court also ordered that the stolen cables remain in police custody until the rightful owner comes forward with proof of ownership.
Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, stated that the complainant and witnesses in the case were police personnel from the Cantonments Division, while the accused resided at Apapa, a suburb of La in Accra.
On February 20, 2025, at about 1:00 a.m., the police patrol team stopped a taxicab near the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel during their routine night patrol. A search of the vehicle uncovered quantities of electrical cables, which Tetteh, who was on board, claimed belonged to him.
However, after further interrogation, the police suspected foul play as the accused failed to provide proof of ownership. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the La Police Station along with the cables.
During investigations, Tetteh admitted to stealing the cables but had yet to lead the police to the exact location of the theft. The police are still working to identify the owner of the stolen property.
