A fire outbreak occurred at the GRIDCo-NEDCo sub-station warehouse in Choggu, Tamale, on Sunday afternoon, causing significant damage to electrical components.
The fire, which started around 2:30 p.m., prompted an immediate response from firefighters, who arrived within 16 minutes. Personnel from the Tamale Metro and Tamale Teaching Hospital fire stations battled the blaze for nearly three hours before fully extinguishing it.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by a transformer explosion, destroying several electrical components, including transformers, high-tension cables, and electricity meters.
However, firefighters managed to salvage a significant portion of equipment, including transformers, meters, and cables, preventing further losses.
The Northern Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Franklin Masiku, supervised the operation and commended the fire personnel for their swift and effective response.
The Ghana National Fire Service has urged individuals and institutions handling electrical equipment to prioritize safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
