Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to hold the Sports Ministry, rather than the GFA, accountable for ensuring transparency in the Black Stars’ budget.
His comments follow President Mahama’s statement during the State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27, where he stressed that there should be no secrecy regarding government expenditures on national teams.
The President also tasked Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams with ensuring budget transparency and holding the GFA accountable ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
However, Nana Oduro Sarfo believes the President has been misinformed, arguing that financial matters concerning the Black Stars fall under the jurisdiction of the Sports Ministry.
“The President has been misled in making that statement,” he told Takoradi-based Connect FM. “The GFA does not spend on the Black Stars. The FA submits the budget for approval, and once approved, the Ministry handles all financial matters.”
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are set to face Chad in Accra on March 21 before taking on Madagascar in Morocco on March 24 as part of the Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
