Assin South Member of Parliament (MP), Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has alleged that some individuals have lost their lives due to the mass dismissal of public servants.
The former Deputy Education Minister made this claim on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Thursday, expressing concern over the impact of the dismissals, which have left many stranded and anxious.
“There are specific cases of people losing their lives. There is a teacher, for instance, and it has been established that it was because of the revocation,” he claimed.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, on February 10, 2025, directed all government institutions to revoke appointments made after December 7, 2024.
The directive was justified on the grounds that the appointments did not align with established good governance practices and principles, leading to widespread job losses.
However, Rev. Fordjour questioned why a government that promised job creation for Ghanaian youth is now contributing to the unemployment rate.
He condemned the terminations, warning that such actions could erode public trust and create dissatisfaction among Ghanaians.
Rev. Fordjour stressed the need to prioritize the welfare of those affected, adding that President Mahama should act as a father for all.
He also argued that the President should have addressed the directive more clearly in his State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Additionally, the MP criticised the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for what he described as a weak response to the issue.
“The letter doesn’t bite because some of these people have paid dues for you, and instead of writing an instructive letter, they decided to play politics of equals,” he chastised.
