President John Dramani Mahama, on Thursday, 27th February 2025, delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term as President of Ghana.
The SONA, in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, serves as an opportunity for the President to highlight achievements and outline the government’s agenda for the year.
During his address, President Mahama expressed deep concern over the state of the nation, emphasizing that Ghana’s economy is in crisis and citizens are enduring significant hardships.
“The state of our nation is not good. Our economy is in crisis and our people are suffering,” President Mahama stated.
He attributed the nation’s struggles to a variety of economic challenges, including rising inflation, soaring debt levels, and a faltering private sector.
According to the President, these issues have resulted in higher unemployment rates and a decline in the standard of living for many Ghanaians.
Despite these difficulties, President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to resolving the country’s challenges, emphasizing that his focus is on finding solutions, not assigning blame.
“It is not my style to lament and shift blame when confronted with challenges. My approach is to accept challenges and work hard to resolve them. Indeed, this is precisely what the people of Ghana elect me to do,” he stated.
The address was attended by several key figures, including Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkorno, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Members of the Council of State, Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Asiamah, and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
