The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Jude Okoye Chigozie, former manager and elder brother of Paul and Peter Okoye of the defunct music group P-Square, over an alleged money laundering case involving N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59.
Jude Okoye was arraigned alongside his company, Northside Music Ltd., on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
He pleaded not guilty to the seven-count charge filed against him.
Following his plea, the prosecution counsel, Larry Peters Aso, requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility until proceedings begin.
However, Jude Okoye’s lawyer opposed this request, instead pleading for his client to be kept in EFCC custody while awaiting his bail hearing.
The prosecution objected, citing overcrowding in the EFCC detention facility and insisting that the defendant be held in a correctional center.
After hearing both sides, Justice Owoeye ruled that Jude Okoye be remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional Facility.
The court has scheduled February 28, 2025, for the bail hearing and April 14, 2025, for the commencement of the trial.
