‘Dumsor’ is not back – Deputy Energy Minister-Designate assures Ghanaians

-

Deputy Energy and Green Transition Minister-Designate, Richard Gyan-Mensah, has dismissed claims that Ghana is experiencing a return of the prolonged power outages known as ‘dumsor.’

Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Gyan-Mensah acknowledged reports of localized power interruptions but insisted they do not amount to a nationwide crisis.

“I want to assure my brother that ‘dumsor’ is not back. We all experienced the period of dumsor and remember the scheduled outages that defined that era. What we see now—sporadic outages in some areas—cannot be classified as dumsor,” he stated.

He assured that ongoing maintenance work on various power plants would soon resolve the disruptions and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a stable energy supply.
