We have to improve after FA Cup exit – Hearts of Oak coach Aboubakar Ouattara

-

Hearts of Oak head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, remains confident that the club can achieve success if the players stay committed and put in the necessary hard work.

His remarks follow the team’s shocking FA Cup exit over the weekend, where they suffered a defeat against lower-tier side Golden Kick FC.

After a goalless draw in regulation time, the Phobians were eliminated 4-3 in a penalty shootout.

With their FA Cup journey cut short, Hearts of Oak will now shift their focus entirely to the Ghana Premier League title race.

In an interview, the Ivorian tactician emphasized that success will only come through dedication and determination from both players and the coaching staff.

“For the facilities at Hearts of Oak, we don’t have any problem. The problem is not the facilities, but it is up to us—the coaches and players—to stay focused and work hard,” he said on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite Show.

He also highlighted the high standards required to thrive at a club like Hearts of Oak.

“If you are coaching at Hearts of Oak, you need to work more than 100 percent to achieve the results.”

One of the key concerns for the team, according to Ouattara, is their efficiency in front of goal. He acknowledged that improving their goal-scoring ability will be crucial to their success.

“We are working on our scoring abilities. We need to score to win,” he stated.

After 19 matches in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, Hearts of Oak currently sit 4th on the table with 33 points.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the league will resume on March 1.
