An AK47 rifle and other police equipment that were taken from the Sehwi Asafo Police Station have been recovered.
The items were found abandoned in a bush near the Asafo community cemetery in the Sehwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region.
Last Saturday, Adom News reported that suspected robbers had broken into the Sehwi Asafo Police Station by scaling through the iron-gated window of the station’s armoury.
They made away with the rifle and other police-issued equipment before fleeing the scene, leaving the station in disarray.
Following an intense search by security personnel and local authorities, the stolen items were discovered intact, hidden in a thick bush near the cemetery.
The Assemblyman for the Sehwi Asafo Electoral Area, Frederick Kwarteng, stated that the discovery has brought relief to the community as fear and panic had gripped residents following the theft.
He further disclosed that the local authorities would be holding a crucial meeting with the police to discuss the security situation in the area.
He remarked that security is a shared responsibility and urged residents to remain vigilant and collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of the community.
Meanwhile, police investigations are ongoing to track down the suspects behind the robbery and bring them to justice.
