Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Keta Constituency in the Volta Region, has expressed his willingness to work with any new appointee to the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Keta Municipality.
He described all the aspirants shortlisted for the position as competent, emphasizing that whoever was chosen by the President and endorsed by Assembly Members would contribute to the municipality’s progress.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Gakpey stated that the shortlisted candidates had demonstrated a strong commitment and dedication to the development of the area after undergoing a thorough interview process conducted by the regional MMDCE vetting committee.
“I am a strong advocate for the development of our area, and with my background in public health, among other fields, and the experience I have gathered in Parliament so far, I am well-positioned to collaborate with the new MCE to drive growth and improvement in Keta,” he said.
The selection process for the new MMDCE is currently underway, with shortlisted candidates from all constituencies in the country expected to be vetted at the national level. One person will be selected for endorsement by the Assembly Members as the Municipal or District Chief Executive.
The shortlisted aspirants for Keta include Wisdom Seade, the Assembly Member for the Anyako Electoral Area and Keta NDC Chairperson; Emmanuel Kwaku Tay, NDC Keta Secretary; and Joseph Amekuedi, NDC Keta Vice Chairperson. Additionally, Simon Awadzi, the Assembly Member for the Abolove-Nolopui Electoral Area, was later added to the list by the regional vetting committee.
“The final decision will be made by the President following an interview process at the national level, and I am fully ready and committed to working with whoever is chosen to ensure continuity and progress in the Keta Constituency,” Mr. Gakpey added.
He appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the national vetting committee to select the best candidates for the various districts—individuals who would serve the interests of the nation rather than pursuing personal gains.
Mr. Gakpey further stated that the appointment of a new MCE was a significant milestone for the Keta Assembly, marking the beginning of a new chapter for development and progress. He called on the public to rally behind whoever is appointed to lead the area.
As Keta prepares for the announcement of its new MCE, residents are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to collaborate with the newly appointed leader. With the MP’s support and cooperation, communities remain optimistic about future growth and development.
As the process unfolds, residents and stakeholders are closely watching to see who will be selected among the four shortlisted candidates, assuring their cooperation for a productive and successful tenure.
They also urged the incoming MCE and the MP to launch an urgent investigation into issues surrounding reclaimed land, as well as allegations of bribery and corruption involving some Assembly Members from the previous administration.
