The brother of veteran actor Mawuli Semevo has shared heartbreaking details about the fire accident that led to the actor’s passing.
According to him, Mawuli had returned from an interview at TV3, worked on his laptop, and gone to bed.
However, he was later woken by distressing screams, only to find his brother’s home engulfed in flames.
“He went to TV3 for an interview, worked on his laptop upon his return, and then slept. I rushed to his location and saw thick smoke. The house was in flames,” he recounted in an interview with One Ghana TV.
Believing his brother had already escaped, he stepped inside to assess the situation before realizing the gravity of the danger.
“I entered to assess the situation and then came out, assuming he had already made it to safety. That was when disaster struck—he was trapped as the fire’s intensity increased.”
Despite his desperate attempt to rescue Mawuli, the flames had spread rapidly.
“I tied a rope to a nearby bed and threw it to him, telling him to hold on so I could pull him out. But it didn’t work. I assured Mawuli that help was on the way, as firefighters were en route. However, by the time they arrived, he had sustained severe burns on his limbs, face, and legs, leading to his demise.”
Mawuli Semevo was pronounced dead at Ridge Hospital on Thursday, February 20, 2025, after succumbing to burns sustained in the fire.
The celebrated actor was known for his stellar performances in both film and theater. His notable works include A Stab in the Dark, Harvest at 17, Escape of Love, The Good Old Days: The Love of AA, and Like Cotton Twines.
