Majority blocks Akwatia MP from making statement in Parliament

-

The Majority in Parliament on Friday blocked Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, from making a statement in the chamber.

The resistance followed the Koforidua High Court’s conviction of Mr. Kumi for contempt and the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest.

The caucus argued that a convict with an active bench warrant should not be allowed to address the House.

Mr. Kumi, who was barred by an injunction from being sworn in on January 7, 2025, defied the order and took the oath.

Meanwhile, he has appealed against the contempt of court conviction.
