GFA President warns match commissioners of dismissal over poor performance

-

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has issued a stern warning to match commissioners, stating that those who fail to meet the required standards will be dismissed.

Speaking during a training session for matchday officials on Tuesday, Okraku stressed the need to enhance safety and security protocols in response to recent incidents affecting Ghana’s top-flight league.

His remarks follow the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, who was fatally stabbed during the team’s Week 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC in Nsoatre.

The incident led to the suspension of the Ghana Premier League as the GFA engaged with all 18 clubs to discuss measures to prevent future violence.

“We’ll be very, very fair in assessing your work. Be honest,” Okraku said during the engagement.

“Those who fall below the line, unfortunately, will leave us. When you hear the discourse in the public space, you would admit that all is not well. And if we have the opportunity to fix what is not right, this is the most opportune time.”

Meanwhile, the suspect in Pooley’s killing, identified as Brimah, is currently on the run.

Asante Kotoko’s first team is set to resume training today, but the club has announced it will not participate in any official matches until justice is served for their fallen supporter.
