2026 WCQ: Sports Minister to meet GFA ahead of Chad and Madagascar games

-

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, is scheduled to meet with the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) this week to discuss the future of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month.

The senior national team has struggled in recent years, facing back-to-back group stage exits at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon (2021) and Ivory Coast (2023). Their 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar also ended at the group stage, further compounding the team’s woes.

Things took a turn for the worse when Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted in Morocco, finishing last in Group F with only three points from six matches.

With the World Cup qualifiers set to resume next month, Minister Adams confirmed to Woezor TV that he would meet with the GFA to discuss strategies to improve the Black Stars’ performance.

“I have held a meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding how security measures will improve at the various stadia in the Ghana Premier League but will officially meet them to discuss Black Stars issues,” he said.

“We know the Black Stars have not been performing well, so we will discuss how the performance of the team will be improved,” he added.

The Black Stars are set to face Chad and Madagascar in their Matchday five and six fixtures in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
