National Labour Commission calls for increased budget allocation

The Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission (NLC), Ofosu Asamoah, has called on the government to allocate additional resources to improve the commission’s operations.

Mr. Asamoah emphasized that increased financial support would enable the NLC to expand its offices nationwide, improving accessibility for citizens in underserved areas.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News during a media engagement, he noted that the current budget is insufficient for effective operation, highlighting the need for a larger allocation to better serve the public.

“The current budget allocation is insufficient for the effective operation of the Commission, and we are calling on the government to increase our budget to help us serve the public better, especially in underserved areas,” Asamoah stated.

The media event aimed to strengthen collaboration with journalists, providing an opportunity for the NLC to share updates, discuss its work, and stress the importance of accurate information dissemination.

A seven-member committee also offered valuable insights on reporting techniques and handling updates from the commission.

Asamoah added that the program was designed not only to foster media cooperation but also to educate journalists about the NLC’s mandate and the crucial services it provides to the public.

“We want the media to understand our role and to help us spread the right information to the people,” he said.

Winifred Nafisa Mahama, Acting Director of the Information Services Department (ISD), also emphasized the media’s critical role in ensuring accurate, fact-based reporting on labor issues.

“It is crucial that the media reports labor-related matters with accuracy to keep the public well-informed,” she said.
