The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the National Teaching Council, hosted a special appreciation breakfast to honour sponsors of the Ghana Teacher Prize.

The event aimed to celebrate their continued support in recognizing and rewarding hardworking teachers across the country.

During the ceremony, sponsors were presented with certificates of appreciation for their commitment, with the Multimedia Group Limited receiving special recognition for its longstanding media partnership.

In his address, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their valuable contributions.

He acknowledged that while fiscal challenges may cause delays in fulfilling some government promises, they would not be abandoned.

The minister reassured sponsors of the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive, ultimately benefiting national development.

Mr. Iddrisu highlighted the crucial role teachers play in shaping students’ lives, especially at a time when family structures are weakening.

He emphasized the need for teachers to create positive and engaging learning environments that foster student success.

Regarding rural postings for teachers, he reiterated President Mahama’s promise of a 20% allowance for educators who accept postings to underserved areas.

He assured the audience that this commitment would be honored, with plans underway to provide teacher accommodation in rural communities.

“If approved by the President and Cabinet, this initiative is expected to roll out in 2025,” he stated.

The minister also expressed his intention to collaborate with the Minister of Finance to secure additional resources for education, including unfreezing the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and ensuring equitable distribution of funds across the sector.

He acknowledged the strides made with the Free Senior High School policy but stressed the need for improvements, particularly in foundational literacy and numeracy.

He concluded by commending the sponsors of the Ghana Teacher Prize, urging them to see their support not just as an investment in teachers but in the future of the country.

The Registrar of the National Teaching Council, Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, also expressed his appreciation to the sponsors for their continued dedication to recognizing and supporting teachers.

He emphasized the essential role sponsors play in acknowledging educators’ contributions to the nation’s education system.
