Renowned football administrator Harry Zakour has voiced his support for Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko to be granted automatic representation on the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The two most successful clubs in Ghanaian football recently issued a joint statement demanding a guaranteed seat on the council.
Their request follows the tragic killing of Nana Pooley at Nana Kronmansah Park in Nsoatre.
Although the likelihood of the GFA granting this demand remains uncertain, Zakour—who led Hearts of Oak to multiple titles as the club’s Chief Executive Officer—believes their influence in Ghanaian football warrants a place at the decision-making table.
“Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak should have a slot on the Executive Council because these are the biggest clubs in the country,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
“I know there are new clubs, but they should be on there to help make decisions to help the other clubs,” he added.
Beyond the Executive Council demand, the two clubs have also called for key reforms, including the introduction of an Autonomous League Management system, improved stadium standards, increased TV rights revenue, and enhanced security measures.
In response to rising concerns over hooliganism, the GFA has introduced stricter security protocols. These measures include appointing Club Safety and Security Officers, installing CCTV cameras at match venues, and enforcing penalties for non-compliance.
Clubs failing to meet these requirements could face fines of up to GH₵20,000 or even venue bans.
