Head of Communications and Strategy for the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Sammy Darko, has urged the Manyhia South MP, Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah, not to confuse the OSP’s mandate with that of the Ghana Police Service.
His remarks come in response to advice from the Manyhia South MP, who suggested that the OSP adopt the police’s approach to investigations, which involves less media engagement.
Speaking on TV, Mr. Darko emphasized the OSP’s distinct role, stating: “We have to make the point clear that the OSP is not like the police. The OSP is the only agency that has a 7-year non-renewable tenure. We’re not like any other agency.”
On February 12, the OSP officially named former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations, including cases related to the National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML).
During a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng stated that Ofori-Atta is now a wanted person and must return immediately for questioning, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action to compel his return.
