Jaman South Member of Parliament (MP), Colonel Kwadwo Damoah (Rtd.), has claimed that those responsible for his removal as Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) will face their own karma.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Burning Issues, Col. Damoah maintained his innocence, asserting that his dismissal was orchestrated by appointees of the former Akufo-Addo-led government, although he refrained from naming specific individuals.
“When the statement about this issue came out, I approached the one who signed it because the allegations were not true. He then told everything that transpired and the people involved,” Col. Damoah revealed. He further emphasized, “It was a deliberate mission by some people, they only used the special prosecutor, and he knows he has wronged me.”
Col. Damoah was dismissed by former President Akufo-Addo on August 26, 2022, with a letter signed by then Executive Secretary Nana Bediatuo Asante.
The dismissal followed allegations of irregularities at the port related to a foreign food importing company, Labianca, investigated by the Special Prosecutor.
The investigation concluded that Labianca’s late owner, Eunice Jacqueline Asomah-Hinneh, exploited her position as a Board member of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to secure favorable treatment for her company.
The Special Prosecutor recovered GH₵1.074 million from Mrs. Asomah-Hinneh, who was also a Council of State member at the time.
When questioned about his connection to Mrs. Asomah-Hinneh, Col. Damoah clarified, “Throughout my era as commissioner, I only saw Labianca’s owner twice. I am only close to the husband because we come from Bono, and all this while, she was already benefiting from the benchmark before I became commissioner.”
