Drivers plying the Berekum-Sampa trunk road have threatened to embark on a strike if the government fails to address the worsening state of the road.
The 119-kilometer stretch was earmarked for construction, with a sod-cutting ceremony held on April 2 last year by the former Minister for Roads.
Work commenced a few months later under Rango Constructions. However, according to the drivers, the contractor abandoned the site after last year’s elections, leaving the road in a deplorable state.
Drivers lament that the deteriorating condition is damaging their vehicles, and they are prepared to halt operations if a long-term solution is not provided.
Passengers have also expressed frustration over the poor and dusty nature of the road, citing health concerns.
Some accuse drivers of exploiting the situation by increasing fares or refusing to transport them altogether.
The affected road users are calling on the government to intervene urgently to prevent further hardship.
