World Vision Ghana condemns bullying at Accra Academy, Zuarungu SHS

-

World Vision Ghana has called for urgent action over recent reports of bullying at Accra Academy and Zuarungu Senior High School (SHS).

Expressing deep concern over the incidents, World Vision, in a statement, described them as unacceptable, warning of the long-term impact on victims’ mental health, well-being, and academic performance.

A statement signed by Child Protection and Advocacy Manager, Gregory L. Dery, emphasized the need for immediate measures to address the issue.

They called on school authorities to swiftly probe the incidents and ensure accountability for those responsible.

“Education authorities should provide schools with resources and guidance to effectively prevent and respond to bullying. The government must reinforce existing laws and ensure their strict enforcement to protect students. Parents, teachers, and students must work together to promote a culture of respect and inclusivity in schools,” parts of the statement said.

To tackle bullying effectively, the organisation has urged schools to establish clear policies and reporting mechanisms.

“Training for teachers and staff on bullying prevention and intervention strategies is essential. Educating students on the harmful effects of bullying and encouraging them to report incidents will help create a safer environment. Strengthening collaboration between parents and schools is also crucial to safeguarding students’ well-being,” it added.

Mr. Dery further expressed solidarity with the affected students and their families, stressing that every child has the right to a safe learning environment, free from fear and harassment.

The statement reaffirmed World Vision Ghana’s commitment to advocating for policies and interventions that protect children, ensuring that schools remain safe spaces for learning and growth.
