Eastern Regional Minister assures swift intervention for Asuokaw river crossing

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Adjei Awatey, has assured residents of Asuokaw of a swift intervention following a viral video showing a student carrying his younger brother across a river on a broken tree trunk to get to school.

During a visit to the Upper West Akyem District, the Minister met with the young boys featured in the video and assessed the dire situation alongside personnel from the Ministry of Defence.

In response, President John Dramani Mahama, through the Ministry of Defence, has directed engineers to evaluate the construction of a permanent bridge over the Asuokaw River.

The Regional Minister confirmed that work on the project will begin soon.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Upper West Akim, Emmanuel Drah, addressed the community regarding the visit, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing a lasting solution.
