Vetting Chaos Committee: We’ll withdraw until Speaker intervenes – Minority

-

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has announced its temporary withdrawal from the Ad-hoc Committee investigating the disruption of the Appointments Committee’s proceedings on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

They cited concerns over the continued chairmanship of the committee’s proceedings, accusing Chairman Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah of bias.

Initially, the Minority had cooperated with the probe but later opted out, questioning the fairness of the process.

In a formal letter to the committee, the Minority Caucus revealed that it had submitted a memorandum to Speaker Alban Bagbin, outlining its reservations and seeking guidance on the matter.

According to the caucus, this decision is not a refusal to cooperate but a necessary measure to uphold due process, fairness, and the credibility of the investigation.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the move is intended to protect the integrity of the committee’s work and Parliament as a whole.

“Given the significance of the issues raised, the Minority Caucus considers it prudent to await the Speaker’s response before taking any further steps in relation to the committee’s work,” he stated.

He further stressed that the decision should not be misinterpreted as an unwillingness to engage but rather as an effort to ensure that the investigation remains fair, impartial, and credible.
