GFA is a good place to start – Mahama to Kofi Adams

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the newly appointed Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to work closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to restore the Black Stars to their former glory.

Speaking at a ministerial swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House on Friday, February 7, 2025, President Mahama underscored the need for professionalism and transparency in the management of Ghanaian sports.

“The Honourable Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, I don’t envy your job. You have the monumental task of restoring Ghana’s pride of place in African and world sports,” Mahama said.

He stressed that transforming the sector requires a modern and transparent approach, urging Adams to prioritize all sporting disciplines, with a particular focus on football.

**”The shambles that is Ghana’s sports today is completely unacceptable for a country with our pedigree. I expect that you inject transparency, professionalism, and modernity into the management of the sector.

“I expect that you concentrate on building on all the sporting disciplines, and I know the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will be a good place to start to make sure we return the Black Stars to their glory days,”** he added.

Ghana’s national team has faced significant challenges in recent years, most notably missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in two decades under coach Otto Addo.
