I was the target of the vetting chaos – Ablakwa

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has claimed that he was the primary target of the chaos that erupted during the Appointments Committee sitting on Thursday, January 30.

According to the North Tongu MP, the hostilities he encountered when he appeared before the committee led him to believe that he was deliberately targeted.

Mr. Ablakwa made the assertion while testifying before the Ad-hoc Committee probing the widely condemned incident.

“What I saw was a degeneration into violence and the destruction of property. As soon as I entered, I was greeted with hostilities. It was clear to me that I was the target. They did not want to have me vetted that day,” he stated on Friday, February 7, 2025.

He indicated that there were deliberate attempts to delay his session, pointing out that other nominees, such as Joseph Bukari Nikpe, who was originally scheduled after him, were vetted first.

“If you look at the schedule that was advertised and published, the media had copies. Some of the people here were even taken ahead of me. For example, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe. He was supposed to come after me, but they had no difficulty bringing him ahead of my vetting,” he explained.

He also added that the invitation for Juaboso MP and Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, was a surprise to him, as Akandoh was originally scheduled for January 31.

“Nobody gave me any information. Even Hon. Akandoh, who was supposed to be sworn in before me, has just confirmed that he was supposed to appear the next day. But he was suddenly called to come ahead,” he said.
