Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Frederick Acheampong, has hinted that the Ghana Premier League could soon resume following its recent suspension.
The league was halted after violent clashes during the Matchday 19 fixture between Nsoatreman and Asante Kotoko at Nana Kronmansah Park in Nsoatre.
The unfortunate incident led to the tragic death of Kotoko supporter Nana Pooley.
After a crucial meeting between GFA officials and representatives from all 18 Premier League clubs on Thursday, Acheampong disclosed that steps are being taken to restart the competition.
“One of the agreements is that we will meet with the supporters’ leadership, and next week, we will have another meeting with all match commissioners. They know the protocols, but we need to refresh them. If no further issues arise, the league can resume the following weekend,” he stated.
Despite these developments, Asante Kotoko has suspended all football-related activities and insists they will not return to action until justice is served.
Meanwhile, six individuals, including Nsoatreman FC owner Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, have been arrested in connection with Nana Pooley’s death as investigations continue.
