We don’t need approval from anyone before making any appointment – GFA

-

Frederick Acheampong, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has stated that the association does not need to seek approval from anyone before making appointments to the national teams.

His comments come in the wake of a recent reshuffle in the technical team of the Black Stars, following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

German coach Winfried Schäfer has been appointed as the new technical advisor for the Black Stars and will also take on the role of technical director for the GFA.

In addition, Desmond Offei, the current head coach of the Black Satellites, has been elevated to the Black Stars’ technical bench as an assistant coach, replacing Joseph Laumann.

Offei will join John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda, who will retain their positions under head coach Otto Addo.

The new team also includes Kris Perquy as the team’s psychologist and Gregory De Grauwe as the video analyst, with other staff members joining the technical setup.

Despite facing criticism, Acheampong defended the appointments in an interview, asserting that the GFA is fully authorized to make such decisions independently.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) don’t need to consult anyone to make a decision on the Black Stars,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“We are the runners of the various national teams and we don’t need to consult anyone in decision,” he added.

Otto Addo, who remains under intense scrutiny, will lead the revamped technical team as head coach.

Meanwhile, Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has hinted that the new technical team may undergo a review.
