The Ghana Football Association (GFA) remains uncertain about when the Ghana Premier League will resume following the tragic incident during the Matchday 19 fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko, which led to the death of a supporter.
The GFA postponed all Matchday 20 fixtures to allow for thorough stakeholder engagements and a full assessment of the situation.
Speaking in an interview with Max FM, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirmed that there is no definite timeline for the league’s resumption.
“We currently don’t have a set date for the resumption of the Premier League. The incident requires proper evaluation, and we are engaging all relevant parties before making a decision,” he stated.
When asked whether the suspension affects other GFA-organized competitions, he clarified that all other tournaments would continue as scheduled.
“At this point, no incidents have been recorded in the other competitions, so they will proceed as planned. We also have to consider the football calendar,” he explained.
He emphasized the need to temporarily halt the top-flight league to ensure all concerns are addressed.
“When the executives met, they decided that if there’s an issue with the Premier League—our flagship competition—then it’s best to pause and put the necessary measures in place before resumption,” he added.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko has officially withdrawn from all football activities, demanding justice for their supporter, Nana Pooley, who was fatally stabbed during the game in Nsoatre.
