The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has assured his commitment to collaborating with all employees of the Regional Coordinating Council to drive the interest and development of Asanteman.

On his first day in office, Dr. Amoakohene engaged with staff across various departments to familiarize himself with their operations and discuss strategies for enhancing the region’s status.

He outlined key priorities, including tackling youth unemployment, security concerns, sanitation, illegal mining, and infrastructure deficits.

“President John Mahama has Asanteman’s best interest at heart, and these are issues he has tasked me to focus on. We can achieve this through collaboration and efficiency,” he assured.

Regarding the abandoned Regional Minister’s official residence and the Presidential Villa, he revealed that a team has been commissioned to review the management of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) and develop a comprehensive plan for the redevelopment of both residences.

Dr. Amoakohene also addressed public concerns over ‘trotro’ drivers charging unapproved fares, instructing a team at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to assess the situation and take necessary action.

Furthermore, he has directed all Coordinating Directors to submit detailed reports on stalled government projects within their districts and municipalities.

On speculations regarding an increase in market tolls, he assured traders that there are no plans to raise Kejetia trading fees from GHC 2 to GHC 5.

Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that extensive stakeholder engagement will be conducted to ensure an inclusive city planning and management strategy before any action is implemented.

The Minister is set to meet with members of the Regional Security Council on Tuesday, February 4, to deliberate on strategies to combat illegal mining effectively.
