The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been urged to address frequent power outages in Adidome Central, within the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, within 14 days.
In a statement, the assembly member, Guggisberg Fiagbenu, bemoaned the challenges faced by residents and business owners in the area, citing the lack of communication and prior notice before power cuts.
The statement noted that these frequent power outages are severely affecting local businesses, with approximately 49% of businesses remaining non-operational daily.
Aside from the outages, the assembly also raised concerns about the payment of estimated bills instead of actual bills.
The statement explained that since the Akosombo Dam spillage disaster in 2023, residents have been forced to pay estimated bills, which they believe are higher than their actual consumption.
Residents also accused some ECG staff of misconduct, citing the use of unfriendly approaches and inappropriate language when residents inquire about the issues.
Meanwhile, they are demanding communication from ECG before power cuts so businesses and residents can make necessary preparations.
Additionally, they are calling for ECG to organise sensitisation programmes on the use of their virtual platforms and to take disciplinary action against staff who engage in misconduct.
