The African Science Academy (ASA), founded by the African Gifted Foundation, is a girls-only advanced-level school fostering the growth of young African women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
It brings together young women from across Africa, providing them with a world-class education, mentorship, and hands-on experience in STEM disciplines.
ASA aims to bridge the gender gap in STEM by empowering young African women with high-quality academic programs. Subjects studied at ASA include Mathematics, Further Mathematics, and Physics, alongside Robotics and Computer Programming.
Beyond classroom learning, students participate in guest speaker sessions, community service, club activities, and sports.
These programs are designed not only to enhance students’ technical skills but also to build their leadership capabilities, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, enabling them to contribute effectively to their communities. Alumnae become agents of change, driving progress in critical areas across the continent.
Since its inception in 2016, ASA has educated over 150 brilliant young women in STEM from different African countries, many of whom have gone on to study at leading universities worldwide on full scholarships.
Additionally, the African Gifted Foundation bursary is available to students in their home countries.
To be eligible for admission, applicants must be female, aged 16 to 19, and from an African country.
They must have completed the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, IGCSEs, O-Levels, or an equivalent qualification, with a strong background in Physics and Mathematics.
Applicants should have excellent predicted grades in these subjects, be fluent in English, and demonstrate a passion for learning, particularly in Physics and Mathematics. The academy admits 50 students per cohort.
African Science Academy is not just an educational institution but a movement for change, dedicated to transforming Africa’s future by equipping young women with the skills and opportunities needed to excel, innovate, and lead in STEM fields.
ASA fosters a culture of excellence, encouraging students to strive towards their goals with determination and ambition.
Admissions are currently open for the 2025/2026 academic year. Visit www.africanscienceacademy.org/how-to-apply for more information on admissions and student recruitment.
