The Bono Regional Police Headquarters has taken Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the owner and financier of Nsoatreman FC, into custody following violent clashes during a Ghana Premier League match.

Baffour Awuah, a former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations and ex-Member of Parliament for Sunyani West Constituency, has been arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit murder.

The incident unfolded on Sunday during a Matchday 19 fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Kronmansah Park.

During the altercation, players and officials were involved in physical confrontations, leading to the tragic death of an Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, widely known as “Pooley.”

As reported earlier, Frimpong was stabbed to death by unknown attackers.

He is also accused of inciting fans, a factor believed to have contributed to the fatal violence.

In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has indefinitely suspended Nana Kronmansah Park and has scheduled an emergency meeting with Premier League clubs, key stakeholders, and supporters’ groups on Thursday and Friday to address the situation.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor has been assigned to lead investigations, as authorities intensify efforts to hold those responsible accountable.
